Billie Eilish Shines on SNL with Magical Performances of 'What Was I Made For?' and 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas

Billie Eilish graced the Saturday Night Live stage, adding a celestial touch to her repertoire just days before her 22nd birthday on December 18. The seven-time Grammy winner mesmerized the audience with enchanting renditions of "What Was I Made For?" and "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas."

The opening act featured her hit ballad from the Barbie movie, introduced by SNL host and Barbie star Kate McKinnon, accompanied by a surprise appearance from Greta Gerwig, the movie's director. Eilish's brother, Finneas, skillfully played the piano as she delivered the soulful melody.

Drenched in shades of Barbie pink, the stage paid homage to the film, and Eilish's performance exuded charm in a light pink collared shirt, her hair elegantly tied up in a ponytail.

Adding a unique SNL twist, the singer incorporated scenes from the Barbie film, showcasing childhood photos of the show's female cast members. This delightful video collage featured snapshots of a young Maya Rudolph, Punkie Johnson, Ego Nwodim, McKinnon, and others, seamlessly intertwining the Barbie narrative with SNL nostalgia.

Eilish's nominated song, "What Was I Made For?" has not only earned a spot at the Golden Globes but is also a strong contender in five Grammy categories, including song and record of the year. Having already clinched an Oscar for the James Bond theme "No Time to Die," Eilish stands poised for potential recognition at the 2024 Academy Awards for her Barbie track.

In a heartwarming interlude, the singer treated the audience to a soulful rendition of "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas," accompanied once again by her brother on the piano and the SNL band. The stage transformed into a festive wonderland, capturing the essence of the holiday season against the backdrop of New York City.

Dressed in a festive ensemble of a bright red vest over a white button-up shirt, Eilish's ombre hair cascaded down in red and black waves. Finneas and the band joined the festive spirit, sporting Christmas sweaters adorned with snowflakes.

The stage itself became a holiday haven, adorned with decorated Christmas trees, twinkling lights, poinsettias, and a cascade of red lights illuminating the performers. As the song progressed, a magical touch was added with faux snow gently descending across the stage.

Before bidding adieu, Eilish surprised fans by donning overalls, a blonde wig, and fake braces to star alongside McKinnon in a charming cat adoption sketch. The duo, sharing the spotlight, engaged in playful banter, breaking character and showcasing adorable felines to the delight of the audience.

This marked Eilish's third appearance as a musical guest on SNL within four years. Her debut in September 2019 featured the Billboard Hot 100 No. 1 hit "Bad Guy" and "I Love You." Returning in December 2021, Eilish not only hosted the sketch comedy show but also enchanted the audience with performances of "Happier Than Ever" and "Male Fantasy" from her sophomore album.

In essence, Billie Eilish's recent SNL appearance was a testament to her musical prowess, seamlessly blending the magic of her Barbie track with the festive cheer of a classic Christmas tune.
