Green Day Alters Iconic Lyrics to Criticize Trump in New Year's Eve TV Performance
Green Day made a bold statement during their New Year's Eve performance on ABC's "Dick Clark's New Year's Rockin' Eve" by modifying the lyrics of one of their most recognized songs to take a swipe at former President Donald Trump and his supporters. In the spotlight, lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong passionately declared, “I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda,” a departure from the original line, “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda,” to directly reference Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. This isn't the first time Green Day has made this lyrical adjustment. The band previously employed the change at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas in 2019, during Trump's presidency.
