Surprise Guest: Baby Owl Takes Residence in Kentucky Family's Christmas Tree for 4 Days

What an unexpected twist!

Earlier this week, a Kentucky family received quite the surprise when they discovered a baby owl had been quietly nesting in their Christmas tree for a remarkable four days.

Christmas

Michelle White, the homeowner, shared with WDKY that her family had brought the live tree into their home without the slightest inkling that a feathery resident had made itself at home. The revelation came when Bobby Hayes, the diligent carpet cleaner from Magic Carpet Cleaning, spotted the owl during his work in their home.

Hayes recounted the moment, saying, "The owl was literally perched on a lower limb. It crawled up into the tree further. It took me several minutes to even find it."

In a conversation with WDKY about the unexpected avian occupant, White expressed her astonishment, saying, "I was shocked. I was so stunned."

Considering the family's routine activities in the room, where they watch TV and have the kitchen nearby, White added, "[There was] no indication at all."

White's introduction to the owl's presence came when Hayes sent her a picture of himself holding the unexpected guest. Recalling the moment, she said, "I thought he'd put a stuffed animal or an ornament in it, so I called him immediately. I'm like, 'You're kidding me, right?' He was like, 'No.'"

Ultimately, Hayes released the owl back into the wild, concluding the surprising chapter. White shared with WDKY that she now plans to commemorate the unusual event by knitting an ornament resembling the bird to adorn her Christmas tree.
