Tatum O'Neal is reflecting on the life of her father, Ryan O'Neal, who peacefully passed away at the age of 82. I'll miss him forever and feel fortunate that we ended on such good terms."

Born to Ryan and ex-wife Joanna Moore in 1963, Tatum, along with her brother Griffin, entered the world. Ryan and Joanna's marriage, which began in 1963, concluded in 1967 after four years. Tatum's statement followed an announcement by Ryan's son, Patrick, who confirmed the news of his father's passing on Instagram.

In a poignant message, Patrick shared, "My dad passed away peacefully today, with his loving team by his side supporting him and loving him as he would us. This is very difficult for my wife Summer and me, but I will share some feelings to give you an idea of how great a man he is."

Tatum's journey with her father began at the tender age of 9 when they starred together in Paper Moon. Winning an Academy Award and Golden Globe for Best Supporting Actress at just 10, she became the youngest person ever to achieve such accolades. However, her early Hollywood success was accompanied by challenges.

Struggling with drug addiction, Tatum disclosed in her 2005 autobiography, A Paper Life, that her father was abusive and introduced her to drugs. This tumultuous period led to nearly two decades of estrangement. In 2011, Ryan admitted his unawareness of Tatum's whereabouts for years, acknowledging the need to find a way back to each other.

The Love Story star hinted at a strained relationship between him, Tatum, and the late Farrah Fawcett. Tatum, in a recent Instagram Story, shared throwback photos and footage of her and her father conducting an interview on the red carpet.

Ryan explained, "We just met, and it was Tatum's standpoint that I had lost interest in my family and found a new interest in my life. That appalled her, and so she fled."

The turning point came in September 2020 when Ryan and Tatum reunited after 17 years. The reunion included Tatum's children, Kevin, Emily, and Sean McEnroe. Sean posted a photo of the family gathering on Instagram, expressing gratitude for their reconciliation after years of hardship.

"This is one of the most memorable photos of my life," Sean wrote. "The last time we were all together was at the 30-year Paper Moon anniversary in 2003. I could cry tears of gratitude that everyone in this photo is still alive, and that we were all able to come together again after so many years of hardship. If the O'Neals can reconcile, truly anything is possible."
