Top of the Charts: Ranbir Kapoor's 'Animal' Reigns Global Box Office, Outshining 'Napoleon' and 'Hunger Games' Worldwide
Sandeep Vanga Reddy's intense Bollywood saga, "Animal," featuring Ranbir Kapoor, has soared to the pinnacle of global cinema, securing the coveted top spot with an impressive $42.1 million in worldwide earnings, as reported by ComScore.
Unleashed
across 38 international regions, "Animal" witnessed a staggering
global gross, including a remarkable $6.1 million in North America, where it
premiered across 850 venues and claimed the 7th position. Domestically in
India, the film's reign began at No. 1, amassing a substantial $28.8 million
over its opening weekend.
In this
cinematic venture, Ranbir Kapoor takes on the role of the son of India's
wealthiest magnate, portrayed by Anil Kapoor (of "Slumdog
Millionaire" fame, unrelated). His adversary in the film is portrayed by
Bobby Deol ("Ashram"), with additional star power from Rashmika
Mandanna ("Pushpa: The Rise – Part 1").
Much like
Reddy's earlier works, including the Telugu hit "Arjun Reddy" (2017)
and its Hindi adaptation "Kabir Singh" (2019), "Animal"
delves into the complexities of toxic masculinity. Dennis Harvey's review for
Variety captures the essence, stating, "While 'Animal' may be too absurd
to be deeply offensive, it does present a caricature of chest-thumping
masculinity – a blend of 007, Godfather, Hercules, and Leatherface – akin to
the fantasies of manosphere celebrities like Andrew Tate."
Securing
the second spot is Ridley Scott's high-octane action epic,
"Napoleon," produced by Apple Original Films and distributed by Sony
Pictures. With a global haul of $35.7 million, including an international
bounty of $28.6 million, the film has now amassed a total of $137 million
globally. "Napoleon" continues its global conquest on over 21,500
screens across 63 markets, with an upcoming release in South Korea scheduled
for Dec. 6.
Lionsgate's
"The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes" claims the
third position, grossing an estimated $29.4 million globally from 88
territories during the weekend. This performance elevates its international
total to $123 million and the overall global gross to an impressive $244
million.
In the
fourth spot is "Renaissance," a mesmerizing concert film crafted by
the multi-talented Beyoncé. Garnering $27.4 million, including $6.4 million
internationally and a dominant $21 million in North America, where it emerged
as the No. 1 title, the film captivates audiences across 88 territories.
Wrapping up
the top five is Disney's enchanting "Wish," accumulating $26.2
million from 34 territories. This includes a robust $18.8 million
internationally and $7.4 million in North America, contributing to a global
gross of $81.5 million.
