Recalling the inception of their bond, the 64-year-old singer reminisced about the meaningful conversations they shared. He described the experience as both strange and surreal, emphasizing his deep admiration for Diana as an amazing woman and a significant source of inspiration.

Meeting the late princess, Adams emphasized, was unequivocally one of the most significant moments in his life. Their introduction occurred on an airplane, following the release of Adams' song titled "Diana," a composition many believed drew inspiration from the princess's 1981 marriage to Prince Charles.

During their initial encounter, Adams disclosed, "I used your name on a song once," prompting Diana's playful response, "Yes, I know, very funny. Actually, I'd like to hear it again." This exchange led to an invitation to tea at Kensington Palace, marking the inception of their enduring friendship.

As their connection deepened over time, Adams explained the gradual development of their relationship. He reflected on his early visits to Kensington Palace, emphasizing the importance of allowing genuine connections to evolve naturally rather than rushing to uncover every detail in the first moments.

Addressing the controversy surrounding the song "Diana," Adams clarified that the lyrics were rooted in "laddish humor" and originally inspired by an unrelated incident. He acknowledged retiring the song out of respect for Princess Diana and her sons after her tragic passing.

When questioned about whether he attempted to alter the course of Princess Diana's fate, Adams admitted, "Maybe, a bit." However, he underscored the respectful nature of their friendship, dispelling rumors of any romantic involvement.

Denying past speculations during an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2018, Adams affirmed their relationship as that of "great friends." Responding to playful inquiries about being "friends with benefits," he clarified, "She was just… we were good friends."

The genesis of romantic speculation stemmed from the lyrics of "Diana," where Adams affectionately referred to her as the "queen of all my dreams." The song expressed his love for Diana, subtly suggesting that her unnamed husband was not deserving of her while urging her to reconsider their relationship.

In essence, Bryan Adams cherishes the memory of his unique connection with Princess Diana, emphasizing the genuine friendship that defined their relationship, while dispelling misconceptions surrounding the nature of their bond.
