Get ready to groove to the iconic '80s synth beats of the
"Beverly Hills Cop" theme song – it's back!
Netflix has just dropped the trailer for "Beverly Hills
Cop: Axel F," marking the highly anticipated return of Eddie Murphy in the
fourth installment of the beloved "Beverly Hills Cop" franchise.
Scheduled to hit screens in the summer of 2024, the film is directed by Mark
Molloy, making its debut approximately 30 years after the release of
"Beverly Hills Cop III" in 1994.
Eddie Murphy reprises his role as the charismatic titular
character, a Detroit cop navigating the intricacies of crime in Beverly Hills.
The familiar faces of Judge Reinhold and John Ashton also make a comeback,
reprising their roles as local cops Lt. Billy Rosewood and Sgt. John Taggart.
Joining the ensemble cast are newcomers Joseph Gordon-Levitt
and Kevin Bacon, injecting fresh energy into the "Beverly Hills Cop"
universe. Taylour Paige steps into the scene as Foley's estranged daughter,
while Paul Reiser, Bronson Pinchot, and Mark Pelligrino round out the
star-studded cast.
In a candid interview with People, Murphy shed light on his
experience returning to the franchise after decades.
"It's a really physical movie, and I had to do some
physical stuff," he shared. "I like to be on the couch; I don't like
to be jumping over and shooting and running. And I had to do some jumping and
shooting and running. And as a result ... at the end of the movie, I had a knee
brace and my back is messed up. But the movie is gonna be special."
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, expressing his enthusiasm earlier this
year, said, "Going to work on 'Beverly Hills Cop' isn't like work. You
think my life is a dream. I'm riding in a helicopter next to Eddie Murphy, and
we're making each other laugh."
Returning to helm the production is veteran producer Jerry
Bruckheimer, the visionary behind the original "Beverly Hills Cop."
"Axel F" faced its share of challenges, with years of development
setbacks and script rewrites. Murphy takes on a dual role as both actor and
producer, alongside Chad Oma, co-producer Melissa Reid, and associate producer
John K. Campbell. Executive producers include Ray Angelic and Charisse M.
Hewitt. The script, weaving its narrative from characters created by Danilo
Bach and Daniel Petrie, Jr., is crafted by the talented trio of Will Beall, Tom
Gormican, and Kevin Etten.
As "Beverly Hills Cop: Axel F" gears up for its
summer 2024 release, fans can anticipate a thrilling blend of nostalgia and new
additions, promising a movie that stands out in the celebrated franchise. Get
ready for Eddie Murphy to once again captivate audiences with his trademark wit
and charm in this long-awaited cinematic return.
