Discovered lifeless on Wednesday within a vehicle at a Seoul park, Lee's demise unfolded after his family revealed the presence of what seemed to be a farewell note, prompting a search by the authorities.

The Associated Press conveyed that the actor was found alongside a charcoal briquette in the passenger seat, and Yonhap news agency reported his unfortunate death at the scene. Concurrently, an ongoing investigation into alleged illicit drug use, as disclosed by The Washington Post, adds complexity to this somber incident.

The Yonhap news agency detailed that Lee faced police questioning on three occasions in connection with purported drug use, including marijuana, at the residence of a hostess affiliated with a Gangnam district club. Despite vehemently denying the accusations through his legal representation, Lee's association with illegal substances remains under scrutiny.

According to Reuters, the actor contended that he fell victim to a scheme orchestrated by the hostess, who allegedly attempted to extort him. The most recent police interrogation, lasting an extensive 19 hours, unfolded over the weekend. Additionally, the Yonhap news agency reported that Lee voluntarily underwent both a brief reagent test and a lab-based drug examination by the National Forensic Service last month, both yielding negative results.

Lee Sun-kyun portrayed the affluent head of the Park family in Parasite, a groundbreaking South Korean film that not only clinched the Oscar for Best Picture at the 92nd Annual Academy Awards but also secured historic wins for Best International Feature Film.

Reflecting on the film's success in an October interview with HollywoodChicago.com, Lee expressed astonishment at Parasite's unexpected triumph, especially for Best Picture. He recounted the unforgettable moment when the film was declared the winner, emphasizing the collective surprise and excitement shared by the cast and crew.

Beyond Parasite, Lee Sun-kyun took on leading roles in films like Helpless and All About My Wife. He also graced Apple TV+ with his talent, starring in the streaming service's inaugural Korean-language original series, Dr. Brain.
