In an exclusive interview with ET's Nischelle Turner at the Elle Women in Hollywood event, Ralph dismissed the rumors, stating, “Vincent and I have been married going on 19 years. We’ve been together 21 years. Abbott Elementary is shot in Los Angeles. My husband, as a senator, is always in his Capitol, so I don’t know what magic people think we’re gonna do.”

Addressing concerns about their time apart, Ralph emphasized the strength of their connection, sharing, “We see each other on the average of every two weeks. And everybody who questions that I say, guess what? We’re still married!”

The 66-year-old Ralph and her 67-year-old husband, Hughes, first crossed paths through mutual friends and exchanged vows in 2005. Both having previous marriages, they merged their families, each bringing two children into the union.

Beyond her personal life, Ralph revels in the success of Abbott Elementary, which returned in February following the SAG-AFTRA strike. Expressing her joy, she said, “I’m so happy because I work on an outstanding show with outstanding people.”

Highlighting the positive impact of the show, Ralph shared an encounter with the Elle editor who expressed, “Abbott Elementary, I watch it with my family together. That means something.”

Amidst the triumphs, Ralph attended the Elle Women in Hollywood event, celebrating the achievements of women in the entertainment industry. Reflecting on her journey, she expressed profound gratitude, recalling advice from Sidney Poitier during her early career.

“I remember so clearly when I got my first job, cast by Sidney Poitier, in Piece of the Action,” she reminisced. “And here I am at 123 years old to be able to look at these women being celebrated for everything they bring to the industry.”

Ralph acknowledged the progress in the industry, remarking on the transformation from a time when women were seldom found behind the camera or in leadership roles. “I’m so happy to be here to celebrate the she, the Elle of it all.”

In summary, Sheryl Lee Ralph confidently addresses speculations surrounding her marriage, emphasizing the enduring bond with Vincent Hughes and expressing gratitude for both personal and professional accomplishments.
