Kody Brown's Unconventional Marriage Agreement and Struggles in Sister Wives Relationship

In a revealing episode of Sister Wives: One on One, Kody Brown disclosed a unique pact he made with his fourth wife, Robyn Brown, differentiating it from his other marriages. The 54-year-old patriarch shared, “Robyn and I made an agreement that if we weren’t in love, that we wouldn’t drag each other out, that we would free each other.”

However, this exclusive agreement was not extended to his first wife, Meri Brown, as Kody clarified, “No, no.” He acknowledged the frustration among his other wives when he informed them about this arrangement with Robyn, emphasizing their freedom to leave if they desired. Meri, 52, expressed her disappointment, highlighting the contrast in Kody's commitment between their marriage and his bond with Robyn.

Meri delved into the emotional dynamics, pointing out that Kody only seemed to hold this commitment dear with Robyn, stating, “He’s sitting here telling Robyn, ‘That’s the agreement that you and I made, that if I ever felt like that, then I wouldn’t hold you in this place.’ Their agreement of, you know, their sacred covenant. I’m like, ‘Then why did you not respect me enough as a human being?’”

Despite Kody's tumultuous relationships with Meri, Christine Brown, and Janelle Brown, which unraveled within 14 months, his marriage with Robyn, whom he wed in 2014, hasn't been without challenges. Robyn, 45, candidly shared with host Sukanya Krishnan that Kody attempts to sabotage their relationship, and she consistently has to intervene to prevent it.

Describing the strains on their relationship, Robyn tearfully explained, “He picks fights with me [over] dumb things. We’re in different places. We’re in different places about the bomb that went off on our family. And like, I’m in a major place of mourning and he’s angry. He just wants to just go find whatever, you know? And I’m like, ‘No, I can’t feel like that.’”

Acknowledging his role in the turmoil, Kody admitted to self-sabotage fueled by frustration and anger. He confessed to intentionally hurting his marriage with Robyn as a form of self-punishment, even contemplating the possibility of leaving her. Reflecting on this dark period, Kody shared, “I thought of myself leaving Robyn and having another lover and looking at this lover and going, ‘I don’t love you. I’m in love with another woman. I’m in love with a woman that I left because I was too much a piece of s--- to manage the relationship.’ What it was is just anger and I’m embarrassed. So, you get embarrassed and then you get self-deprecating. It’s like, just bad behavior.”

In his candid admission, Kody revealed grappling with anger and temptations that could have jeopardized his relationship with Robyn. The toxic dynamics, he added, were unsettling for her, describing his anger as a turn-off and even frightening.

In essence, Kody's unique agreement with Robyn sheds light on the complex dynamics within the Sister Wives family. His open acknowledgment of self-sabotage and the struggles faced by him and Robyn provides a glimpse into the challenges of maintaining multiple marriages in the public eye.
