MTFestUK 2024: A Musical Extravaganza Unveiled by The Other Palace & Turbine Theatre

MTFestUK 2024, featuring an exceptional lineup of eight new musicals. Running
from January 30 to February 11, this two-week extravaganza will grace both The
Other Palace Studio and The Turbine Theatre stages.
MTFestUK
stands out as a one-of-a-kind festival, providing a unique platform to unveil
the latest and most exciting musical theatre creations. In a celebration of
artistic innovation, this year's event will showcase eight new productions,
allowing audiences to witness the magic of musical theatre in its earliest
stages of development through interactive 'sharing' sessions.
Artistic
Director Paul Taylor Mills of The Other Palace and The Turbine Theatre
expressed his excitement, stating, "We are thrilled that MTFestUK
continues to support and showcase such a broad range of new musical theatre
writing at both The Other Palace and The Turbine Theatre." Notably,
several pieces previously featured in MTFestUK have gone on to full
productions, highlighting the success of these theaters in fostering creativity
and exploration of new works.
Each
musical will undergo casting and rehearsals, followed by four sharing
performances in a workshop format that is open to enthusiastic audiences. The
diverse range of titles and themes featured this year includes:

1. MTFestUK

Gigglemug Theatre, the multi-award-winning
creators of "Timpson: The Musical" and "RuneSical," brings
you a family-friendly musical comedy inspired by the 1991 tribunal that
unraveled the true identity of a Jaffa Cake – the nation's favorite cake (or
biscuit?).
2. Both

A delicately powerful and intimate new
musical exploring the complexities of love. When promises of forever crumble,
who will we become? Will we fight or fade away when our unity is challenged?
"Both" navigates these questions with grace and emotion.
3. Tit Swingers

and Sam Kearney-Edwardes
Anne Bonney and Mary Read, the polyamorous
queer pirates known as the Hellcats of the Seven Seas, swing their way into a
punk gig musical, sharing their sea shanties and tales of notorious crimes.

In a '50s San Francisco coffee house, a
beatnik sculptor's accidental creation thrusts him into fame, leading to a

6. Bling

Set in 2008, amidst the chaos of Britney's
comeback and 'The Kardashians' era, "Bling" delves into the darkly
comic world of a group of teenagers planning a heist on Hollywood celebrities'
homes – a pop-opera that questions the hows and whys with a comedic twist.
7. Redcliffe

- Directed by Josh Seymour
Transport yourself to 1753 with
"Redcliffe," an epic tale of forbidden love inspired by the true
events of William Critchard and Richard Arnold. Amidst historical persecutions,
witness a love that defies the odds.
8. The Garden

Experience the magic of "The
Garden," a musical that unfolds as a sprawling magical garden appears
