Rob McElhenney Balances Emmys and Eagles: A Playful Peek Into His Priorities
Rob
McElhenney, at 46, already secured his Emmy, but during Monday night's awards
show, he showcased a humorous twist to his attention. In a delightful selfie
shared by his wife, Kaitlin Olson, the couple sat in the audience at the 75th
Emmy Awards. However, McElhenney's focus wasn't fixated on the stage; instead,
he was engrossed in live-streaming the Philadelphia Eagles' playoff game
against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Expressing
his sentiment on X (formerly Twitter), he playfully questioned, "Who
schedules the Emmys the same night as the @eagles #gobirds #FlyEaglesFly"
alongside the shared selfie. The NFL responded to this unique moment,
acknowledging his priorities with a simple yet resonant, "Priorities 🎯."
This
apparent indifference to the awards show follows McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds'
recognition earlier in the month at the Creative Arts Emmys for their FX
docuseries, "Welcome to Wrexham," exploring the Welsh soccer team
they co-own. The show was nominated for six awards and secured five wins, a
fact McElhenney proudly highlighted during Monday's Emmys appearance alongside
his "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia" castmates.
Onstage
with Danny Devito, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, and his wife Olson, McElhenney
subtly complained about the lack of Emmy nods for their sitcom but made sure to
highlight the success of "Welcome to Wrexham." Awards included
outstanding unstructured reality program, outstanding cinematography for a
reality program, and outstanding picture editing for an unstructured reality
program.
In an
Instagram video accepting the award, the co-owners injected their signature
humor. McElhenney began expressing his gratitude but was swiftly interrupted by
Reynolds wearing a Deadpool mask. Reynolds humorously referred to himself as
"Mr. Lively" and mentioned the broken Emmy, borrowed from Hugh
Jackman.
During
Reynolds' speech, he humorously revealed turning to Jackman for the award and
Jackman's uncertainty about possessing an Emmy. The borrowed Emmy, which turned
out to be "broken," added a humorous touch to the moment, emphasizing
the camaraderie between the actors.
As we peek
into this playful balance between the Emmys and Eagles, it's evident that
McElhenney's ability to merge humor, success, and genuine priorities makes him
not only an award-winning talent but a relatable and entertaining figure in the
world of entertainment.
