Ewan McGregor's Playful Nod to Mary Elizabeth Winstead's Scott Pilgrim Character (Exclusive)
In the wake
of Netflix's Scott Pilgrim Takes Off, actress Mary Elizabeth Winstead, the
voice behind Ramona, and the live-action portrayal in 2010's Scott Pilgrim vs.
the World, shared a delightful wardrobe anecdote involving her husband, Ewan
McGregor.
Amid a chat
with PEOPLE, Winstead, 39, disclosed McGregor's penchant for a particular shirt
that never fails to bring joy. She explained, "He has this shirt that
he'll break out every now and then, with a photo of me as Ramona Flowers, and
it says, 'I'm in lesbians with her.'" The reference humorously echoes a
memorable line from the 2010 film, where Michael Cera's character professes his
love to Ramona in a unique way.
Winstead
chuckled, revealing, "Sometimes when we're out, he'll take off his
sweater, and that's the shirt he's wearing. It makes me so happy."
Scott
Pilgrim Takes Off mirrors the film's narrative, narrating Scott Pilgrim's
pursuit of love with Ramona Flowers amid challenges posed by her seven evil
exes. The voice cast features familiar names reprising their live-action roles,
including Michael Cera, Ellen Wong, Kieran Culkin, Chris Evans, Anna Kendrick,
Brie Larson, Aubrey Plaza, Brandon Routh, Mae Whitman, and more.
Ellen Wong,
reflecting on the reunion, expressed, "[It's like] when you have that
high-school reunion or something — it's like these people that were there in
your formative years, and now we're all back together again."
Winstead
and McGregor, 52, met on the set of FX's Fargo in late 2016, both playing love
interests. Their relationship blossomed, leading to the birth of their son,
Laurie, in 2021, and they tied the knot in April 2022. Both having roles in the
Star Wars universe—McGregor as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Winstead as Hera Syndulla—the
couple is currently collaborating on the Paramount+ series A Gentleman in
Moscow, post the SAG-AFTRA strike.
Winstead
anticipates the series, calling it "a beautiful show to get to work on
together" with her husband. Looking ahead, she says, "We're very
excited for that to come out eventually. And now we'll figure out what comes
next one day at a time."
For those
eager to catch up on Scott Pilgrim nostalgia, Scott Pilgrim Takes Off is
available for streaming on Netflix.
