Mariah Carey's Festive Musical Picks: A Peek into Her Christmas Playlist

Mariah Carey's holiday playlist isn't just about her iconic hits; it includes a surprising guest—Alvin and the Chipmunks! The diva behind "All I Want for Christmas Is You" recently shared some of her favorite Christmas tracks with PEOPLE, revealing a whimsical fondness for the cartoon critters.

Expressing her love for the festive spirit, Carey gushed about "The Chipmunk Song (Christmas Don't Be Late)," a classic by Alvin, Simon, and Theodore. Despite her own Christmas classics becoming global standards, Carey embraces the occasional kid-friendly carol. However, her go-to choices lean towards timeless crooners like Luther Vandross and Nat King Cole.

Among Cole's repertoire, Carey holds "The Christmas Song" in high regard, describing it as one of the all-time top songs. The song, with its melancholic undertones, transports her to Christmases past. "It's still just soaking that up because I love it so much. I love Christmas and that time of year, listening to these songs that I've grown up with," shares Carey.

In 2023, Mariah Carey has unofficially crowned herself the Queen of Christmas, captivating fans with her digital cover appearance on PEOPLE and extending her annual Christmas extravaganza to the "Merry Christmas One and All!" tour. Throughout the tour, Carey's children, Moroccan and Monroe, joined her onstage, creating heartwarming moments for both the diva and her fans.

Reflecting on her kids' performances, she remarks, "As they grow up and decide what to do with their lives, it's really nice for me to be able to see them performing onstage." The tour reached a full-circle moment with the release of a Mariah Carey Barbie at the Hollywood Bowl in mid-November. The doll, inspired by her outfit in the "All I Want for Christmas Is You" video, brought a sense of nostalgia and cuteness, even if Carey had a few notes about the doll's details.

"I had some notes, yeah," admits the 54-year-old diva. "The hair, other things. But when I saw my doll, I was like, 'Oh my gosh, this is so cute.'"

Mariah Carey's Christmas journey is a delightful blend of festive cheer, nostalgic tunes, and creating lasting memories with her children. As she continues to thrive and enjoy a fun holiday break, her influence as the Queen of Christmas remains as strong as ever.
