Angourie Rice Reflects on a Unique Encounter with Lindsay Lohan in the New Mean Girls Musical (Exclusive)
Two decades
later, Lindsay Lohan makes a surprise return to the Mean Girls universe! The
37-year-old actress, now a self-proclaimed "cool mom" in real life,
graces the new musical adaptation of the 2004 comedy, reprising her iconic Cady
Heron role.
Directed by
Samantha Jayne and Arturo Perez Jr. and penned once again by Tina Fey, Lohan
emerges as the moderator of the climactic math competition that Cady, this time
portrayed by Angourie Rice, skillfully guides North Shore High to victory.
Rice, the
23-year-old Australian actress known for her roles in The Last Thing He Told Me
and Mare of Easttown, shares why sharing the screen with Lohan was an
invaluable experience for her.
"Getting
into the head of a character is a rare experience, and meeting someone who has
done the same thing is even rarer," expresses Rice. "Having that
shared experience means a lot to me."
Acting, at
times, can be isolating. Rice reflects, "You delve into the character's
mindset, bid farewell to it, and it feels like you've abandoned it."
"But
knowing that Cady has been a part of so many actors' lives, that she's
transcended individual actors—she's become larger than any one performer,"
she adds. (Erika Henningsen originated the role on Broadway.)
"It's
significant that I get to share this with Lindsay and other exceptional
performers," Rice emphasizes.
Lohan,
keeping her cameo under wraps, attended the New York City premiere on Jan. 8,
alongside producer Lorne Michaels and Fey, who reprises her role as Ms.
Norbury. (Tim Meadows also returns as Principal Duvall.)
In a series
of Walmart Black Friday ads, Lohan reprised her role as Cady alongside legacy
cast members Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert, envisioning where their
characters ended up after the original film.
At the
premiere, Daniel Franzese, who portrayed Damian alongside Lohan, expressed the
original cast's eagerness for a proper movie sequel.
"You've
got to tell the boss lady, Tina Fey, over there. I'm sure she's heard it a
million times, but she's the gatekeeper, so we're all waiting," Franzese,
45, shared, adding that the original cast stays connected despite busy
schedules.
Mean Girls
is now playing in theaters. Don't miss this chance to experience the reunion
and the magic of Cady's journey once again!
