Jason Momoa's Epic Escape: How He Successfully Evaded Recognition in a World That Knows Him Everywhere

Jason Momoa, the towering Aquaman star, is accustomed to standing out in a crowd. At 6'4", Hawaiian, and often sporting eye-catching outfits, blending in isn't his strong suit. However, there was one instance where he managed the impossible feat of going unrecognized, employing some extraordinary measures during his time in Jordan while filming for the 2021 movie Dune.

 


Acknowledging his distinct appearance, Momoa admits, “I get recognized wherever I go." Despite his tattoos, trademark eyebrow scar, and flowing hair, he embraces his uniqueness. Even his choice of transportation, including a baby pink Cadillac and a one-of-a-kind vintage pink motorcycle, doesn't help him keep a low profile.

 

Sharing a humorous anecdote, Momoa recalls a failed attempt at going incognito when he noticed a paparazzi picture of himself with a shirt pulled over his face, leaving only his eyes exposed. "It’s still like, you’re not getting away with anything. It’s still me,” he laughs, emphasizing the challenge of evading the spotlight.

 

However, there was a hidden gem where Momoa could savor the luxury of anonymity – Jordan. Reflecting on his time there, he describes the necessity of being fully wrapped and covered up, miming the attire he wore during the Dune shoot. “It was amazing. No one knew. I was standing next to people, it was great,” he reminisces, almost blowing his cover when a hint of his tattoo became visible. A swift shhh gesture saved the day, preserving his covert status.

 

In his upcoming travel series, "On the Roam," premiering on Jan. 18 on MAX, Momoa's on-screen persona is anything but incognito. He takes viewers on a journey to explore his passions, delving into activities he has longed to experience. One episode sees him in North Carolina, collaborating with renowned motorcycle experts to rebuild historic bikes and then racing them on a daring dirt track with his handpicked gang. Another episode features a rendezvous with legendary guitarist Slash, leading to a visit to the Gibson guitars headquarters in Tennessee for the recreation of rare instruments.

 

Unlike conventional travel shows, "On the Roam" doesn't adhere to a rigid formula; instead, it mirrors Momoa’s spontaneous travel style. “Each episode just evolves into its own thing. Some of them turn into therapy sessions,” he reveals, emphasizing the intimacy and revelation that characterizes the series.
