Klopp Optimistic About Full Squad for Showdown Against Manchester City
Jürgen Klopp remains optimistic about having a complete lineup to choose from, barring long-term injuries, as Liverpool prepares to face Manchester City this Saturday.
In the lead-up to the Etihad Stadium clash, Joe Gomez, Ryan
Gravenberch, Curtis Jones, and Ibrahima Konate have all participated in
training after missing the previous match against Brentford due to injuries.
Confirming the availability of this quartet and providing an
overview of his squad's fitness, Klopp stated during today's pre-match press
conference: "Yeah, only the long-term absentees are still out. No new
concerns – before I entered this room."
While Conor Bradley is back to regular training, Klopp
emphasized the need for him to gain match fitness, starting with the U21s.
Excitingly, Kaide Gordon joined the team for the entire week of training and,
according to Klopp, "looks really good" and now needs to accumulate
playing minutes.
Summing up the status of the squad, Klopp remarked, "I
think that's it."
Assessing the players returning from international duty,
Klopp explained, "They all came back pretty much from international
[games], so we have to make these decisions." He went on to describe the
decision-making process, stating, "For these decisions, I have to wait
until: at 3pm is the meeting and 4pm is training, so until then. Look in their
eyes, talk to them and then figure out who is ready to start and who is
probably better to bring on."
Highlighting the positive performances during the
international break, Klopp mentioned, "They all, I would say, nearly all,
had a really good international break. Colombia was really successful, Lucho
scored twice. Uruguay obviously did really well. So we have to see."
He specifically acknowledged Darwin Nunez's good form,
expressing the desire to utilize him as often as possible, though the
possibility of his participation remains uncertain at this moment.
In anticipation of the upcoming clash with Manchester City,
Klopp's positive outlook on the squad's fitness and the return of key players
bodes well for Liverpool's chances in the crucial encounter.
