Jo Koy's Hilarious Moment: Taylor Swift's Reaction to His NFL Joke at the Golden Globes

Jo Koy, the 52-year-old comedian who hosted the 81st Golden Globe Awards, found himself in the spotlight when one of his jokes didn't quite hit the mark with Taylor Swift. The viral moment occurred during the live broadcast at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, California.

Playfully comparing the Golden Globes to NFL games, Koy humorously remarked, “The big difference between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we have fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift,” referring to the frequent cutaways of the 34-year-old singer at her boyfriend Travis Kelce's NFL games.

As the audience laughed and gasped, the camera cut to Swift, who pursed her lips, sipped her drink, and maintained a deadpan expression. ET’s Denny Directo caught up with Koy on the red carpet at Billboard’s Golden Globes after-party to discuss the now-famous moment.

Koy, taking it in stride, described Swift's reaction as cute. “I was just saying it was cute. I was just saying it’s less cutaways, that’s all,” he explained. When Directo jokingly suggested that Swift might have been thirsty, Koy responded with a smile, “Aww, man.”

Despite Swift's seemingly chilly response, Koy expressed his satisfaction with the hosting gig and celebrated the remarkable sweep of wins for the AAPI (Asian American Pacific Islander) community. “It’s not just one, it’s for all of us,” Koy emphasized.

Swift, no stranger to the scrutiny of NFL coverage, had previously addressed the negative backlash in her Time’s Person of the Year profile. She clarified, “I’m just there to support Travis. I have no awareness of if I’m being shown too much and pissing off a few dads, Brads, and Chads.”

The 2024 Golden Globes, hosted by Jo Koy, aired on Sunday, Jan. 7, at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT on CBS and streamed on Paramount+. For comprehensive Golden Globes coverage and the complete list of winners,
